| GET TO KNOW GARY! From the hot-spots of east Texas and southwest Louisiana to the traditional toe-tapping dance-halls of central and west Texas, Gary Helms has played to standing room only audiences and kept them screaming for more. Few artists have made such and impact on the Texas country music scene. Nonstop touring and professionalism have made him one of the most in demand country artist in Texas. Gary was launched into the International spotlight in 1993 when a song "Rainy Night In Texas" became a fan favorite in Europe peaking at #2 on the European Charts for four weeks and staying in the top 20 for an amazing 15 weeks. He also started getting air play at many Texas radio stations as well with "Rainy Night In Texas" and "Daddy Don't Leave" both songs he penned himself along with co-writer Jim Rowland a former Texas Black Gold band member. Gary currently has songs on the radio in Belgium, Germany, France and the good ole... USA. Gary and Texas Black Gold received a few accolades in February 1994 when he was featured in the 93Q Country Radio Magazines (Houston Rodeo Edition) as a regional fan favorite. Gary has also been one of the feature artists at the Houston Musicians Re-union for the last five years, a time when the stars really do come out at night. Gary grew up in North Shore, a small town 15 miles east of Houston. With country boy charm, good looks and manners, Gary is an icon of respect. Though his passionate love of the stage has already provided him opportunities to perform for fans across the country, his heart remains true to Texas. His roots and respect for the Lone star people run as deep as the state's seemingly bottomless mine of platinum talent. The father of two great boys. I CONSIDER MY GREATEST CAREER ACHIEVEMENT TO BE... It hasn't happened yet. THE PERSON I WOULD LIKE TO CUT A DUET WITH... Sherrie Austin or Sara Evans MY MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT WAS... Microphone stand collapsing down when I was adjusting it live on stage. THE FUNNIEST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED TO ME ON STAGE IS... A lady threw some lace panties on stage and they landed on the neck of my guitar. THE MOST TOUCHING THING A FAN HAS EVER DONE WAS... Post my music on there page, tell me how one of my songs helped them in some way and told me I was there favorite singer. I can never express how much that touched me. MY BIGGEST PET PEEVE IS... Drama, I don't want to hear it! Then band personnel not learning the songs the correct way. My biggest by far is people who are inconsiderate to others as well as those who abuse children and elderly folks. MY BIGGEST CHARACTER FLAW IS... Putting things off or running late. SECRETLY, I'VE ALWAYS WANTED TO... It used to be to have the largest-selling album of all time or win CMA and ACM Entertainer of the Year but those are pretty much useless to me now since Nashville over commercialized and went Hollywood. I mean the last CMA Awards Show looked like a circus for kids complete with Minstral show. A HABIT I'D MOST LIKE TO BREAK... Drinking soft drinks (currently working on cutting those out all the way!) THE QUESTION I LEAST WANT TO HEAR IN AN INTERVIEW... "Can you please tell us about your personal life?" The short answer is "Uh... No!!!" lol... |
